Pre-treatment information

Before your treatment, there are a few things that you need to bear in mind:

Health

At your first appointment, I will ask you to fill in a consultation form, which gives a list of medical conditions that could affect your treatment. If you suffer from any of the following, please contact me before I arrive to discuss your appointment:

  • Cancer
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Kidney failure
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Blood clots
  • Intestinal obstruction
  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome

Some conditions make massage unsafe, while others require medical permission before your treatment can go ahead. If you do not tell me in advance, your treatment may not be able to proceed.

Please note that if you are suffering from any illness, even if mild, this is also a temporary contraindication for massage until the illness passes. Massage - especially sports massage - is hard work on the body, and having one when you are already fighting an illness off is likely to make this worse. If you have a temperature, cough, cold, stomach upset or any other illness, please contact me to rearrange your appointment.

I will soon be offering pregnancy massage as a new service.

Getting yourself ready

Please wear comfortable clothing, and ideally a pair of shorts. It is essential that you wear underwear, and you will keep this on throughout your treatment.

Please also try to make sure that you're well hydrated before your treatment - massage increases blood flow around the muscles being treated, and being well hydrated helps with this. It will make your massage more comfortable, and also more effective - manipulating a dehydrated muscle is far less comfortable for you than a nicely hydrated one. Dehydration can also increase your risk of suffering muscle cramps. So try to drink plenty of water throughout the day of your appointment, for a more effective massage!

Thanks for booking! I look forward to meeting you soon.
